If you want to recreate this project at home, youll need a Raspberry Pi, Philips Hue lights, an HDMI splitter, an HDMI capture card and at least 512 MB of RAM. That's basically a floor-plan of the Hue lights and bulbs you have around the TV, and which you want to use with the Hue Play Sync Box. If you happen to have Philips Hue lights, Aura can even sync to your entire room lighting setup with ease. You'll need the Hue Sync app along with the regular Hue app, for a start, and you'll already need to have set up an "entertainment area" in the latter. If you're using a sound-bar or similar, there's an HDMI-ARC port which can loop the output to that. So, for the full experience, you’ll be out of pocket an eye-watering 540 for the 65-inch lights, Sync Box, and Hue Hub. As long as your TV has a USB port you can connect it to the microUSB on the Hue Play Sync Box, and that will trigger it to turn on/off instead. Currently, the Play Gradient Lightstrip comes in three sizes: the 230 55 inch model for 55-60-inch TVs, 250 65 inch model for 65-70-inch TVs, and 280 75 inch model for 75-inch and larger TVs. The former requires an HDMI-CEC compatible set, which most recent TVs are, but there's a workaround if yours isn't working. Sync your smart lights to your favorite songs Create your own ambiance, from chill to party, its all up to you. Follow the prompts to connect your Spotify account with the Philips Hue app. When the app asks how you want to sync your lights, tap the Spotify account button and then tap Next. The Hue Sync app uses Entertainment Areas to determine which lights to sync. The idea is that the Hue Play Sync Box automatically powers on when your TV turns on, and then switches between sources automatically. From the home screen of the Philips Hue smartphone app, select the Sync icon at the bottom, then tap the Get Started button. Here's how to enable the music sync feature: Step 1: Open the Hue app. There's a button on the front which cycles through those inputs, but no physical remote. Fold in audio sync so that both video and audio data are used to determine light activity.
